Changing Materials in Solidworks : Standard

To change the material in SOLIDWORKS, go to Features > Material not specified>, right click, and select Edit Material.

The SOLIDWORKS material database will then appear. When you hover your cursor over certain materials, a box displays informing you of the location of that database.

For example, you may go in and specify that you want your model to be built of steel and AISI 1020, then press apply. SOLIDWORKS will then assume all of the material properties of that material.

Changing Materials in Solidworks: Customized

You may do this by clicking the right mouse button over your AISI 1020 and selecting modify material. There is a Custom Materials option at the bottom, which is in its own database at a separate area.

By building a new library, you may also construct your own unique bespoke material database (right-clicking in the grey area). You may then navigate to the Local Disk (C:) disc, create a New Folder, and name it something unique. When you go to that folder, you’ll give the material database a unique name and save it.

So you can now see your new directory in the SOLIDWORKS interface. Then, right-click your new directory and select New Category. In this case, we’ll refer to the new category as Custom Steel.

You may then look at AISI 1020 in SOLIDWORKS materials. Since the fields in this section cannot be altered because they are all greyed out, you must right mouse click on AISI 1020 > Copy and then right mouse button over your Custom Steel folder and press Paste. You now have a new custom material, Custom1020, which you may rename and apply. You may change the materials to solve your problem.
